Family Assist

The right start for you and your baby

Pregnancy and childbirth can be daunting particularly for first time mothers. Family Assist can help right from the start with information, education, online assistance and the support of experienced midwives. The Family Assist program provides:

  • regular contact from experienced midwives
  • phone-in and dedicated email services to midwives
  • comprehensive books on pregnancy, birth and your new baby, and
  • online help and information available at any time.


The program midwives have extensive experience in neonatal, labour, delivery and postnatal care, whom you can turn to during this important time for you and your family.

They will contact you at regular intervals, throughout your pregnancy right up to your child's first birthday, to help answer your questions and provide information on topics such as:

  • progress of your pregnancy
  • common complaints
  • eating well for you and your baby
  • exercise
  • explanations of standard tests and procedures, and
  • baby care.

They will even help you celebrate the birth with a special gift.

Are you eligible?

  • Are you pregnant?
  • Do you have hospital cover with Defence Health and are eligible for our maternity benefits?

If you answered 'yes' to each of these questions and you have not enrolled in the Family Assist program before, give your baby a great start in life by enrolling today.

Just download the Family Assist brochure, complete and fax the enrolment form to 1300 665 096. Soon after, you will be welcomed to the program and provided with some free information on the joys of pregnancy.
