1 Public Hospital cover is not available in the Northern Territory. Current members moving to the NT are able to upgrade their cover to Top Hospital without the imposition of waiting periods.
2 If your doctor chooses to use the Access Gap Cover schedule of fees Defence Health can cover up to 100% of the doctors’ fee. At a minimum Defence Health will cover the difference between the Medicare rebate and the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) fee.
3 No-gap prostheses as defined in the Federal Government’s Prostheses Listing are covered 100%. More expensive prostheses may attract out-of-pocket expenses.
4 Pharmaceuticals are not covered where you choose to be treated in a private hospital.

Non-resident limitations

The Top Hospital and Public Hospital products are not suitable for non-residents without full Medicare entitlements. This includes overseas visitors from countries with Australian Government reciprocal health care arrangements.
