Learn about hospital and extras insurance
Private health insurance comes in two forms, hospital cover and extras cover. Depending on your needs you can purchase both or just one.
Hospital cover provides hospital accommodation, theatre fees, intensive care and Medicare recognised treatments. It also pays a valuable contribution towards the cost of the medical practitioners treating you in hospital.
Extras cover provides benefits on the services not covered by Medicare - such as dental, optical, speech therapy and physio. This gives you money back on important everyday health services.
We offer a range of hospital covers and extras covers that can be mixed and matched to meet your needs. If you think you might be eligible for our exclusive packages for ADF families, check here.
Mix and match
Hospital cover helps lower or remove your costs when you’re a private patient in hospital. We have three levels of hospital cover, Premier, Value and Essentials. The level you choose determines the number and types of procedures and services you’re covered for. The higher your level of cover, the more you’ll be covered for.
Extras cover helps lower or remove your costs when you visit health and wellbeing providers whose fees aren’t covered by Medicare. They include dentists, chiropractors, physiotherapists, a range of alternative therapists and much more. We have three levels of extras cover – Premier, Value and Essentials. The higher your level of cover, the more services you’ll be covered for and the lower your out-of-pocket expenses will be.
As well as dental and optical networks that deliver great value and lower out-of-pockets, we also offer extra flexibility through flexi-limits. This means you can claim more of your favourite treatment. It can be claimed across the range of flexi-treatment categories, or you can choose to use it on your favourite service. So you can choose how you spend it.
