From boot camp to boardroom

Defence Health is very proud to be involved in an initiative to support transitioning ADF personnel to get started in business.

The skills employed in the Army, Navy or Air Force give those who’ve served the potential to be highly successful business owners, consultants and entrepreneurs. The Lead Your Own Business program offers the helping hand they need.

The specially designed program, supported by the Prince’s Charities Australia and RMIT University, incorporates online learning, an intensive residential education program at the university’s simulated business space and extensive mentoring from an industry expert.

And there is no better mentor for a budding entrepreneur than our CEO, Major General Gerard Fogarty AO (Retd). Gerard has first-hand experience to share, having made his own transition from the top ranks of the Army to leading Defence Health.

Gerard joins seven other high calibre business mentors with current or former Defence connections.

Participants in the program will receive:

  • support to develop their business idea into a formal business proposal
  • practical assistance in gaining the necessary permits and licenses required for start-up
  • valuable mentoring, networking and industry connections.

At the conclusion of the program they will be awarded the nationally accredited Certificate IV in Small Business Management from RMIT University.
This is a fabulous opportunity for anyone who’s leaving the ADF or has transitioned within the last two years to finesse their skills and start their own business.

Applications are open until 5:00pm 24 April 2015. More information and application forms are available at www.princeslyob.com.au
