Card surcharges

At Defence Health, we’re committed to transparency when it comes to your payments. If you're paying your premium using a credit, debit or prepaid card, please be aware that a surcharge applies. The surcharge may vary depending on the type of card you use. The surcharge is to cover fees charged by the card payment networks and not Defence Health. Defence Health will always seek to minimise costs to members and only pass on the costs to Defence Health. By choosing to pay using a method other than card, you can avoid incurring a surcharge.

When will I see the surcharge?

Surcharges are determined by the international card payment network and can change over time. The surcharge is calculated and applied to card payments at the time the payment is made.

You may be charged a surcharge when you make regular automated card payments, or when making a card payment through our website, the Member Portal, or over the phone.

By setting your payment method to direct debit from a bank account, you will avoid any card surcharge.
