How does the no-gap dental offer work?

When it comes to your oral health, prevention is better than cure. That’s why we’ve created an industry-leading no-gap preventative dental offer to make it easier and more affordable to maintain good dental health.

‘Preventative dental’ care is what people of all ages should have access to. It includes check-ups and procedures such as scale and clean for plaque and calculus removal, and, fissure sealant. ​​

Members with extras cover can claim benefits towards the cost of this general and preventative dental treatment. A set benefit for each dental item number can usually be claimed on-the-spot at the dental clinic. Depending on what the dentist charges, a balance may be payable by the member.

The difference at a network dentist

Defence Health has a national network of dentists that offer no-gap preventative dental treatment. That means on our most popular* mid and top-level extras cover, there is nothing to pay for preventative treatment. The no-gap offer also covers 100% of the cost of bitewing x-rays.

The dental network also delivers greater value because of the capped fees network dentists charge Defence Health members for other dental treatment.

What if my current dentist is not in the network?

That’s okay. You will still receive the set benefit payable for each dental item number. But as non-network dentists can charge what they like, you may have an out-of-pocket expense after your extras benefit has been paid.

We understand that members may want to continue to see their existing dentist. But if the time comes that you need to find a new dentist, we encourage you to check out one of our network dentists for more affordable treatment.
