We are temporarily ceasing sales of Travel Insurance
Following the advice of the Australian Government for Australians not to travel overseas, and the decisions of a number of Australian State and Territory Governments to impose travel and other restrictions, Allianz Global Assistance is temporarily ceasing the sale of new domestic and international Travel Insurance policies effective 27 March, 2020
There may be other insurance options available to suit your requirements; please refer to the Insurance Council of Australia website for a list of alternative providers.
COVID-19 and Travel Advice Warning Update
Allianz Global Assistance Travel Insurance policies do not cover claims related to COVID-19. In addition, if you travel to a country where the Australian Government has issued “Reconsider your need to travel” or “Do not travel” travel warnings and restrictions, then your claim may not be covered, even if it arises from an event unrelated to COVID-19. Please refer to the Australian Government’s Smartraveller website for up to date information.

Travel insurance COVID-19 refund update
Defence Health’s travel insurance partner, Allianz Global Assistance (Allianz), is currently reviewing customer refund requests for unused travel insurance cover due to COVID-19 restrictions. Each refund request is being individually evaluated to determine eligibility for a partial or full refund.
If you purchased travel insurance before 27 March 2020 that was unable to be used due to COVID-19, you may be eligible for a full or partial refund of the cost of your policy. Defence Health recommends you contact Allianz on [email protected] or 1800 622 499 with the details of your policy to determine your eligibility.
COVID-19 Advisory (Coronavirus)
Please be aware that general exclusions apply to all travel insurance policies and are detailed in the Product Disclosure Statement. Under the General Exclusions section, pg. 46, No. A11 relates to ‘Epidemic/Pandemic’. Under this exclusion, Allianz are not required to payout a claim if it arises from, is related to or associated with;
- An actual or likely epidemic or pandemic; or
- The threat of an epidemic or pandemic.

Defence Health Travel Insurance provides cover for the needs of the ADF and their families.
ADF members (permanent, and reservists serving 20 or more training days in a financial year) on deployment or overseas posting can be covered for leisure travel from their overseas base. The same flexibility applies to their family if they are living overseas with the ADF member. Return travel is covered back to the overseas post or to Australia.
Leave cancellation insurance is also available for ADF members and their families if a holiday booking has to be cancelled because the ADF member has received notice of deployment.
ADF members and Defence Health members also receive special rates.
